Location, Location, Location viewers have branded a millennial couple ‘snobs’ after splashing out £1million for a home in north west London – and not wanting to look elsewhere. In the latest installment of Channel 4’s home hunting series, Kirstie Allsopp and Phil Spencer were helping Dom and Arta find a family pad after months of fruitless searching. The couple, who are city-based solicitors, had managed to save for a whopping £1million budget but were very set on their location – wanting to be within a commutable distance from the centre. However, they were quickly branded ‘location snobs.’ as they were only keen to live in London. Phil showed them three and four bedroom properties in areas such as St Albans, Radlett and Whetstone, with the couple eventually settling on a £950,000 home in the latter. But viewers were left aghast at how such a huge budget had only bought them a terraced house. Location, Location, Location viewers have branded a young couple’s decision to spend £1million on a home in London ‘utter madness’. Pictured: Dom, Arta and baby FlorenceDom and Arta found the four-bedroom modernised home on their own after being disappointed with the houses they’d been shown. They said they’d ‘overpaid’ when buying their first flat four years ago, and were now hoping to find a larger home after welcoming their daughter Florence seven months ago. Viewers couldn’t believe how little their £1million budget stretched, with all the properties viewed being either semi-detached or terraced homes – major downside considering the vast sum. They wrote: ‘For a £1m quid , I would at least expect the house to be detached, not a semi attached to a c*** house’;’Spending over £900k on a terraced house seems wild. You’d be able to get a 5 bed huge detached in the midlands and still have money to build an extension for that’;’Let’s all laugh at london prices’;’Cheer up, you just spent a million quid on a semi’; Viewers were shocked that their huge £1million budget had only brought them a terraced property Dom and Arta spent £950,000 on the modern home in Whetstone, north London Phil Spencer also took them to view a £1million three-bedroom property in St Albans (pictured)’A million quid just isn’t enough! Bless em’;’Pah….. location snobs’;’Couple walking round bog standard 3 bed semis with a million pound budget. What the f*** is happening’; ‘A million quid. It’s a suburban SEMI !’;’I cant get passed that for a £1m the house is not even detached’;’A young couple with a million pound budget looking at semi-detached houses…makes you sick doesn’t it’;’£1million…London is great but this is utter madness.’Dom, originally from Liverpool, and Arta, who was raised in London, met at a festival six years ago in Germany. They’d sold their flat last year and had been renting in Highgate while searching hard for their new home, viewing more than 50 properties. Viewers were left aghast at how such a huge budget had only bought them a terraced house The couple were left impressed at the light interior of the St Albans house, but found it was too small They said other houses they viewed in north London required too much workDom said: ‘I’m always really surprised by how little £1million gets you in this part of London. You need to be earning at least £1.5million to £2million.’But after beginning their search in St Albans, they soon realised that moving further out into the commuter belt didn’t necessarily bring them more space. The first property had only a 15 minute walk to the train station and boasted bay windows and an open-plan kitchen and dining space. According to Phil it was a ‘really immaculate finished house’, but at £1million exactly, it was right at the top of their budget and was a similar size to properties they’d seen closer to London. Phil moved the search more central, looking in Radlett, finding a four-bed home for £950,000, but slightly more run-down despite having more space. He then demonstrated a house in Whetstone, which needed a ‘bit of life’, and was astonishingly described as a ‘do-er upper’ home, despite the £850,000 asking price. Ara and Dom had fallen in love with the area however – and it was where they found their final home, also a terraced house costing £950,000. Previously on the show, viewers slammed a ‘miserable’ couple for claiming huge four-bedroom houses in Belfast were ‘too small’. Tony and Val looked to relocate to Northern Ireland after living in London for three decades. The couple, who have been married for 27 years, had very specific requirements for their search, including being near a train station, proximity to the coast, and having four spacious bedrooms – despite it being just the two of them. Time and time again, Val and Tony left Phil frustrated, eventually discarding all five properties they went to visit. They took issue with how ‘small’ the properties were and any ‘low ceilings’ – and while they wanted old-fashioned character, they wanted it to be in a modern condition to avoid any renovations. Location, Location, Location airs on Channel 4, Wednesdays at 8pm.
