A young British backpacker living in Sydney’s eastern suburbs has taken to social media to share his impressions of the city’s contrasting neighbourhoods. The 21-year-old, known on TikTok as Chambothetraveller, moved from the UK to Australia in March and has been documenting his experiences while working as a tradie. In his recent videos, he shared blunt opinions on the cultural divide between Sydney’s upscale eastern suburbs and the working-class west. After visiting areas such as Blacktown and Mount Druitt, he claimed that residents in western suburbs were ‘way nicer’ than those in affluent eastern areas like Bondi and Coogee.’I just finished up the tour of all the dodgy places in Sydney, and I must say they might be rough, they might look a bit s**t, but the people are just way nicer,’ he said.’Like I’m kind of getting sick of living in the eastern suburbs like your Bondi or Coogee. It’s just full of w*****s.’According to the young backpacker, conversations in Sydney’s eastern suburbs lacked warmth, revolving around activities like morning runs and acai bowls.’They just sat there like “oh, I just did a run this morning, I just done this, this morning, I just got an acai bowl”, f**k off you posh pr***s,’ he said. Chambothetraveller claimed people who live in Sydney’s western suburbs were ‘nicer’ than their eastern suburb counterpartsIn contrast, he described locals in western Sydney as friendly and considerate, claiming that people would ask about his day and offer assistance.’Everyone that I spoke to was f***ing golden and I felt very welcomed in Mount Druitt,’ he said.’Definitely not the nicest area in Sydney, however, lovely people… all in all, a good solid seven out of 10 for me.’He attributed the cultural difference to a wealth disparity between the suburbs.’They (people in the eastern suburbs) got so much money, they think they’re better than everybody else,’ he said. After finishing a ‘tour of all the dodge places in Sydney’,  the 21-year-old described the people in people in Blacktown (pictured) were ‘golden’ and ‘lovely’ He labelled residents in Bondi (pictured) and Coogee as ‘posh pr****s’ and claimed money was the reason they weren’t as nice as Blacktown or Mount Druitt locals Chambothetraveller highlighted only one concern with the western suburbs: the presence of ‘eshays’ – a subculture characterised by young Aussies sporting designer sportswear and occasionally engaging in antisocial behavior at train stations. Many Sydney locals agreed with the young backpacker, and said people in the city’s western suburbs are generally friendlier and more down-to-earth than those in the eastern suburbs. ‘We are dodgy as but we are the nicest people in Sydney,’ one said.’That is the reason why I love Western Sydney. The genuineness and loveliness of the people here is what makes it an underrated gem,’ a second person wrote. ‘People in western Sydney are much more honest and down to earth,’ a third said. A fourth added: ‘So true. I lived five years in eastern suburbs, have spent the last four in the west, absolutely love it, so much better and heaps friendlier.’
