Tom Hardy’s new movie Venom: The Last Dance has set off a ‘woke’ debate for an unlikely reason on X, formerly known as Twitter.The poster features the supervillain Venom and his alter ego Eddie Brock, both played by Tom Hardy, accompanied by the tagline: ”Til Death Do They Part’ – with the plural pronoun used to refer to Eddie and Venom as two separate characters.However one social media user used the catchphrase to take aim at the trans movement and nonbinary pronouns, writing: ‘‘TIL Death Do THEY Part” sealed the deal for me. Not accepted THEY Pronouns they tried squeezing in there and I’ll bet others ain’t either. Movies were overrated anyway. #Venom #Venom3.’A furious backlash followed in the replies, where other X users accused the original poster of being an ‘imbecile’ and pointed out that ‘they’ was used because Eddie and Venom are widely regarded as two different people. However the original poster insisted that his initial tweet was a ‘joke’ and that he was also ‘showcasing how they SQUEEZED it in.’  Tom Hardy ‘s new movie Venom: The Last Dance has set off a ‘ woke ‘ debate for an unlikely reason on X, formerly known as TwitterIn various conversations in the replies, the original poster also noted that a grammatically correct form of the tagline would have used ‘them’ instead of ‘they.’The initial tweet was flooded with derisive comments, including one that read: ‘They. As in two people, you genuine imbeciles.’In reply to that particular jab, the original poster sneered: ‘Yes we all know that yet you still ain’t figured it out but good job. Now I can get you for slurs. Thank you for doing exactly what I expected.’Another X user wrote: ‘Whoever made this poster used the plural use of “they” to refer to two people: Eddie and Venom. I learned the difference between singular and plural in elementary school, why didn’t you?”Enough of your insults fool. You haven’t even ask why I posted it,’ retorted the original poster, prompting a third X user to leap into the fray and snap: ‘Because you’re nothing but rage bait. Why ask?’At times, the original poster appeared to cop to the fact that the initial tweet was simply a form of bait to rile up observers.One X user in the replies guffawed: ‘This is the most obvious bait I’ve seen, maybe ever. How are people falling for this ahahahaha. Class,’ to which the original poster responded: ‘Because they get easily offended.”Venom is always we/they, because it’s the symbiote and the host together. “We are Venom.” I loved 1 and 2. I can’t wait for the 3rd to hit digitial,’ wrote one fan. I just said it as a joke pretty much and also showcasing how they SQUEEZED it in.’ ‘I think it’s not about that it’s about both Eddie and venom,’ one X user opined in the replies, to which the original poster wrote: ‘Think about it. Just thought I brought it up cuz it was funny.”They are literally TWO PEOPLE why wouldn’t THEY use THEY??’ fumed one X user in the replies, prompting a lengthy response from the original poster.’Huh?
