Thandal has been MLA from Mahilpur and Chabbewal constituency four times

Even before the by-elections on four seats of Punjab Assembly Shiromani Akali Dal has suffered a big blow. Senior party leader and former minister Sohan Singh Thandal has joined BJP. Former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani got him included in the party.
Punjab BJP confirmed this on Twitter and wrote that ‘Punjab BJP became stronger in Punjab, senior Shiromani Akali Dal leader and former minister Sohan Singh Thandal joined BJP. Former president Shwet Malik, former minister Som Prakash, general secretary Parminder Singh Brar were present on this occasion.It should be noted that the joining of Thandal, who has been a four-time MLA from Mahilpur and Chabbewal assembly constituencies, to BJP is being considered an important development in the politics of the state. This step of Thandal before the by-election is definitely a big blow for the Akali Dal.Now Thandal is likely to contest from Chabbewal (reserved) assembly by-election seat.
