Some of the biggest stars in soap descended on London’s Salsa Temple on Monday as the 2024 Inside Soap Awards got underway.Coronation Street proved to be the big winner of the night, scooping six awards including Best Soap, beating last year’s victor EastEnders.Leading the arrivals was Hollyoaks mainstay Jennifer Metcalfe, who certainly set pulses racing as she posed for snaps in a daring lace look.The actress, who plays Mercedes McQueen, posed up a storm in a sexy lace bralet and a matching sheer skirt.Emmerdale star Eden Taylor-Draper triumphed on the night as she won Best Actress for her performance as Belle Dingle, in a storyline which saw her tormented, controlled and abused by husband Tom King. sheer skirtEden cut a glamorous figure in a stunning black mini dress as she accepted her acting honour, joined by co-star James Chase, who plays Belle’s husband Tom. EastEnders’ Zaraah Abrahams cut an elegant figure in a fitted black jumpsuit with sheer sleeves as she posed for snaps at the event.Emmerdale’s Daisy Campbell also opted for a sophisticated ensemble, posing in a plunging black mini a delicate bow belt, and she completed her look with matching embellished heels. EastEnders star Ellie Dadd brought a touch of glamour in a fun white corseted blazer and matching flares, posing on the red carpet with co-star Jaden Ladega. Lisa Riley cut a stylish figure in a plunging black and white printed dress, as the iconic Dingle clan were awarded the prize for Best Family.Joining Lisa, who plays Mandy Dingle, were Eden (Belle Dingle), Katie Hill (Sarah Dingle) and Dominic Brunt (Paddy Dingle).Hollyoaks star Kirsty Leigh-Porter slipped into a plunging black buttoned dress with frilled Joining Isabelle at the ceremony was Ashley Taylor-Dawson and Ryan Mulvey, who play her father Darren Osborne and abusive brother JJ respectfully The trio posed up a storm after earning critical acclaim for the sibling sexual abuse storylineFellow Hollyoaks star Isabelle Smith was seen proudly posing with her award for Best Newcomer. During the ceremony, TV fans named Coronation Street their Best Soap for 2024 – in a huge night for the ITV show, which saw it take home a whopping six trophies. The TV mainstay bagged more than any of its competitors – including the sought-after prizes of Best Actor, Best Storyline, and the big one: Best Soap.Coronation Street lost out on the Best Soap award for the past two years, with EastEnders taking home the gong in 2022 and 2023.The Cobbles’ emotional Motor Neurone Disease storyline, which dominated the night, saw Peter Ash take home Best Actor for his portrayal of Paul Foreman. Paul lost his battle with motor neurone disease 16 months after he first showed symptoms and his emotional last episode aired earlier this month.Paul slowly lost his mobility and his ability to consume food, which ultimately left him housebound, before heartbreaking scenes saw his character die.The tragic storyline was widely recognised at the ceremony, also scooping up the Best Storyline award and the Best Partnership Award for Daniel Brocklebank and Peter Ash’s roles as husbands Billy Mayhew and Paul Foreman. Inside Soap editor Gary Brocart-Gillatt said: ‘The story of happy-go-lucky Paul Foreman’s MND diagnosis – and the effect it had on both Paul and those who loved him – has been the stand-out TV of 2024 for our voters. ‘It’s no surprise that Peter Ash’s tender portrayal of Paul has won him our Best Actor prize; and that’s no small achievement in what has been a truly golden year for soap.’Coronation Street also scooped up Best Comic Performance and Best Young Actor, taking their trophy total to six.Charlie Wrenshall won Best Young Actor for his role as Liam Connor, while Dame Maureen Lipman was awarded Best Comic Performance for the fourth year in a row for her role as the acid-tongued Evelyn Plummer. Elsewhere, Emmerdale’s Eden Taylor-Draper won Best Actress for her performance as marital coercive control victim Belle King. Emmerdale’s Louise Jameson cut a chic figure in a pink jumpsuit, teamed with silver metallic trainers Fellow Emmerdale star Rebecca Sarke put on a leggy display in a lilac ruffled mini dress, accessorised with chunky navy blue suede heels Hollyoaks star Anya Lawrence slipped into a stunning white strapless dress and gold heels EastEnders’ James Farrar, Ross Boatman and Shane Richie were in high spirits as they headed to the ceremony together The trio posed for a slew of playful snaps at the event Sporting a smart leather jacket, Shane planted a playful kiss on Ross’ cheek as they arrived for the ceremony Shane cut a casual figure in a black leather jacket and smart jeans as he arrived for the event Hollyoaks star Kieron Richardson cut a suave figure in a brown double-breasted suit EastEnders star Shiv Jalota opted for a sharp black suit at the ceremony Emmerdale’s Kevin Mathurin cut a casual figure at the ceremony Casualty’s Milo Clarke, Barney Walsh, Elinor Lawless, Di Botcher and Michael Stevenson were all in attendance for the awards together The magazine awarded its prestigious Outstanding Achievement prize to a group rather than an individual for the very first time, paying tribute to The Cast and Crew of DoctorsThe soap’s Dingle clan – who will soon celebrate 30 years at the centre of the Emmerdale action – were named Best Family.Meanwhile, the first ever Inside Soap Award for Best Pet went to Minnie, who plays Belle’s dog Piper in the show, another victim of evil Tom King’s mind games with Belle.Best Showstopper – awarded to a showcase episode – went to EastEnders for their Christmas Day instalment in which Linda Carter (Kellie Bright) killed Keanu Taylor (Danny Walters), kicking off the on-going murder conspiracy of ‘The Six’. Navin Chowdhry was named Best Villain for his sinister turn as Walford’s Nish Panesar.Young Hollyoaks star Isabelle Smith won ‘Best Newcomer’ for her portrayal of Frankie Osborne in the soap’s hard-hitting storyline of sibling sexual abuse.Inside Soap readers named the newly rejuvenated Neighbours their Best Daytime Soap and Neighbours’ Ryan Moloney (Toadie Rebecchi) their Best Daytime Star.Meanwhile, Adam Thomas won Best Drama Star for his role as Donte Charles in Waterloo Road.Inside Soap readers named actress Balvinder Sopal their Soap Superstar of 2024, for her performance as EastEnders’ Suki Panesar. And the magazine awarded its prestigious Outstanding Achievement prize to a group rather than an individual for the very first time, paying tribute to The Cast and Crew of Doctors, as the recently axed daytime drama broadcasts its final run of episodes.’The BBC’s cancellation of Doctors – a wonderful launch pad for new writing and acting talent – was incredibly disappointing to see,’ commented Inside Soap editor Gary Brocart-Gillatt. ‘We also know how much Doctors viewers love the show, so it’s on their behalf that we’ve awarded our Outstanding Achievement trophy to the team.’
