An 87-year-old British man has been arrested on suspicion of the attempted murder of his ‘sick and bedridden’ wife in Greece. The pensioner allegedly tried to suffocate the 89-year-old woman with a pillow in their apartment in Paleo Faliro, around 6km west of Athens city centre, yesterday. The man told police he tried to kill her because she ‘asked him to and wanted to die’, local media has reported. When he thought she was dead, the 87-year-old allegedly told a neighbour on a different floor what he had done and the police were called.  Pictured: Paleo Faliro, around 6km west of Athens city centre, where the incident allegedly took place (file picture) Pictured: Flisvos beach on the Paleo Faliro promenade in Greece (file picture) Officers reportedly found the woman still alive and lying on the bed in the apartment naked.  She was taken to the Janeio hospital for treatment. Her condition is currently unknown. It comes after British pensioner, David Hunter was jailed for 19 months in 2022 for killing his terminally-ill wife in Cyprus. The 76-year-old, originally from Northumberland, smothered his cancer-stricken wife Janice with a pillow. He claimed that she had ‘begged him to kill her’ as she couldn’t face undergoing treatment anymore. Hunter was handed a two-year prison sentence by judges at Paphos District Court but was released last July. This is a breaking news story – more to follow
