A Michelin starred restaurant in London has decided to lower its prices down to 1994 levels to celebrate 30 years of business. St John Smithfield, in Barbican, was opened by chef Fergus Henderson, restauranteur Trevor Gulliver, and the maitre d’Jon Spiteri three decades ago. In 1994, a plate of apricots on toast was just £3.70 (today it is £10.20) while devilled kidneys on toast was £8.80 (today it is £27). Mr Gulliver told The Times: ‘We are going to enjoy this little moment with those close by that really matter and those that we need to say a big thank you to. ‘They are the same, our St John folk and our customers across the years. I hope that we’ve found a good solution […].’ St John Smithfield, in Barbican, is celebrating its 30-year anniversary Today the restaurant features on the world’s 50 best restaurants list chosen by the 50 Best Discovery databaseThe anniversary menu will include crispy fried pig tail, bacon and mash and Welsh rarebit. The restaurant will also offer commemorative merchandise to celebrate the 30-year anniversary. The menu will be available on weekdays between September 9 and 27.
